THE BREAK IT DOWN PROJECT
Young people are exposed to stereotypes and conscious/unconscious bias every day. The Break It Down project seeks to help school-aged young people explore, unpack and break down the various stereotypes that impact their identity, wellbeing and mental health, and social and emotional development whilst encouraging them to be advocates for breaking down (and calling out) stereotypes and bias. The 'Break It Down Project' will produce a magazine and documentary - by youth, for youth - as well as an annual day where schools across the West are invited to host activities that encourage upstanding and calling out stereotypes and bias, promote diversity and belonging, and a Brimbank-wide commitment to BREAK IT DOWN!

THE HEART OF THE PROJECT
There are 3 core parts to the 'Break It Down' Project.Â
Read on to find out what is at the heart of it and how together we can create social change and BREAK IT DOWN.
THE BREAK IT DOWN MAGAZINE
The 'Break It Down' magazine and resource book will share stories and expressions by young people about stereotypes, their experiences and the impact this has, as well as providing educational and practical tips, strategies & actions people can take to break down stereotypes and bias.

We invite all schools and organisations across the Brimbank area, and all our youth living and working in Brimbank, to get involved by contributing their stories, art, images and written articles to the magazine.

THE BREAK IT DOWN DOCUMENTARY
The 'Break It Down' Documentary will be co-created by diverse young people in the Brimbank community. Young people are invited to create a video of either themselves or others (with consent, of course!) sharing their stories and experiences of stereotyping and bias and how it has impacted them or the people around them, helping raise awareness and drive a call to action.

We invite all schools and organisations across the Brimbank area, and all our youth living and working in Brimbank, to get involved by submitting their short video stories to form part of the documentary on breaking down stereotyping & bias.

BREAK IT DOWN DAY - FRIDAY 13TH OCTOBER 2023
‘Break It Down’ Day is a Brimbank-wide day, designed to raise awareness about the impact of stereotyping and bias and take an active stand against it.

Taking place on Friday 13th October 2023, during Australia's Mental Health Awareness Month, we invite schools and organisations to commit to hosting a day, filled with bias-breaking activities and wear red, symbolising that - no matter who they are, where they are from or what they look like - we all have red blood underneath our skin, unifying us as humans.
